Introduction

The Youth Researchers Program (YRP) is a Six-Month program where motivated students from diversified disciplines learn and conduct research under the guidance of reputed faculty from different universities and sectoral experts. YRP provides fundamental knowledge of research methodology, basic statistics with SPSS and hands-on research projects experiences Skills acquired in doing research cover all the critical skills needed for the 21st century. YRP is designed to provide a better understanding of current research practices, and information, and connect participants to pursue careers as researchers. The program begins with an introduction to the research process and methodologies, before moving on to question formulation, hypothesis generation, concept formation and operationalization, and causal inference. Fellows are also equipped with comprehensive knowledge and competencies in a wide array of research methodology techniques: both qualitative (e.g., interview, focus group discussion, case study, comparative method, and content analysis), and quantitative (e.g., experimental and quasi-experimental design, and statistical methods).
  • After successful completion of the program, participants will be able to
  • Understand research terminology
  • Develop research proposal
  • Be aware of the ethical principles of research, ethical challenges, and approval processes
  • Describe quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approach
  • Identify the components of a literature review process
  • Critically analyze published research
  • Understand basic statistics and analyzed them using SPSS.
  • Undertaking research project independently

Dr. Md Jamal Uddin (Professor)

Program Quality and Research Coordinator

Dr. Md. Jamal Uddin was born in Cumilla, Bangladesh, and currently working as a Professor in the Department of Statistics at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh. From November 1998 to December 2003, he studied Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme in Statistics at the Department of Statistics, SUST, Sylhet, Bangladesh. From January 2004 to August 2005, he studied Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme in Statistics at the same university and from October 2008 to September 2010, and he also studied Biostatistics programme with VLIR-UOS scholarship at the Center for Statistics, Hasselt University, Belgium. As of January 2011 to December 2014, he worked as a PhD candidate in the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology at Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. His PhD thesis was related to statistical methods to control for unmeasured confounding in pharmacoepidemiology. Moreover, from April 2017 to December 2019, he worked as a Postdoctoral fellow in the Section of Biostatistics, Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. In the same time, he also worked as a Statistician in the Department of Mental Health, University Hospital Copenhagen, Denmark, under a project (iPSYCH: The Lundbeck Foundation Initiative for Integrative Psychiatric Research). He has published a significant number of scientific articles in well-known international journals and attended many national and international conferences. During his PhD and Postdoctoral research in the Netherlands and Denmark, he was involved as a statistician in a multidisciplinary international research project. He obtained four research grants from the research centre of SUST. In addition, currently, he is supervising/co-supervising 08 BSc/MSc research students and two PhD students in his department at SUST. Currently, he is providing consultancy support with datascape research and consultancy limited for conducting Public health and WASH-related research projects.
